About unbraid
unbraid is a free, open-source VPN client for Android. You choose a VPN route or Direct for each app. Routes can use different providers and countries at the same time. Tailscale is built in. It’s a client, not a VPN service. You bring a supported provider account, including Proton VPN Free, or your own server.
Who makes it
unbraid is made by one person and published by Quiet Crafts, a small software business in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Quiet Crafts publishes the app and this website.
Why it exists
Android runs one VPN app at a time. Using Tailscale for your home network and a VPN provider for everything else meant switching apps, and a VPN app sends all its apps to one country. unbraid keeps several connections inside Android’s one VPN slot, so each app can use its own provider and country, or Direct.
How it’s paid for
The app is free, with no ads, no paid features and no unbraid account. Donations aren’t open yet. They’ll be optional and won’t unlock anything. If a provider link on this site is an affiliate link, it says so next to the link.
How the guides are written
- Guides describe the released app. Before a guide is published, every claim about unbraid is checked against the app’s source code.
- The code and these guides are written with help from AI assistants. The developer decides what is released; the terms describe how the code is checked.
- Claims about other apps and about Android link to their own documentation.
- Each guide shows the date it was last changed. When a release changes how something works, the guides that describe it are updated.
- A check against the source code doesn’t mean every setup has been tested on a device.

Open source
The app’s code is published under the GPL-3.0 license on GitHub. Its tunnels run on the open-source sing-box engine. The download page lists the certificate the APKs are signed with, so you can check a download. There has been no independent security audit; the security page says what is checked and how to report a problem.
